How To: Crochet a Pokemon Go Venonat

048VenonatHere is another Pokemon to add to my growing collection.

Venonat!

20160819_222444 Venonat is made using a special loop stitch. I tried and tried to figure out a way to explain how to make that stitch, but in the end it wasn’t coming out right. So here is the link to the Youtube video which does a much better job at explaining and showing exactly what to do.¬†https://youtu.be/iuR0OlDqH0g

Want to give it a try?

Supplies needed:

    • purple yarn – you wouldn’t think you would need much for this project but because of the loops it really adds up, make sure you have a ball worth.
    • raspberry coloured yarn (scraps)
    • pink yarn (even less scraps)
    • lilac coloured yarn (scraps)
    • fibre fil for sutffing
    • a yarn sewing needle
    • a size g crochet hook

Time Needed:

    • This one took quite a bit of time because of all the loops stitches i put in it. While making the pattern this one took me about 3 hours.

Skill Level Needed:

    • Intermediate. The loop stitch is the most difficult part of this pattern but once you get going it’s really not that terrible and actually kinda fun!

Venonat Body: (worked in continuous rounds)

    • R1 – ch 2, 6 loop stitches in 2nd ch from hook
    • R2 – 2 loop stitches in each stitch around (12)
    • R3 – 1 loop stitch, 1 loop stitch increase around (18)
    • R4 – 2 loop stitches, 1 loop stitch increase around (24)
    • R5 – 3 loop stitches, 1 loop stitch increase around (30)
    • R6-R8 – loop stitch around (30)
    • R9 – 3 loop stitch, 1 loop stitch decrease around (for the decrease with a loop stitch I just skipped one stitch and made the loop in the next stitch. It’s way easier than trying to figure out how to decrease with a loop and it won’t show because of all the loops anyway) (24)
    • R10 – 2 loop stitch, 1 loop stitch decrease around (18)
    • R11 – 1 loop stitch, 1 loop stitch decrease around (12)
    • stuff body
    • R12 – decrease loop stitch around (6)
    • close up hole as best you can and fasten off.

Eyes ( make 2 with raspberry colour):
    • R1 – ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook
    • R2: 2 sc in each stitch around (12)
    • R3 – sc around
    • fasten off leaving a tail for sewing

Antennae (make 2 with lilac colour):

    • ch 10
    • 3 sc in 2 ch from hook
    • slip stitch in remaining chains. fasten off

Feet (make 2 with lilac colour):

  • R1: ch 7, sc in 2nd ch from hook. sc in next 5 ch. 3 sc in last ch. Working on the other side of the ch, sc in next 5 ch. 2 sc in next ch. join to first sc.
  • R2 – sc around (15)
  • R3 – sc in next 4 stitches. decrease 3 times. sc in next 5 stitches (12)
  • R4 – sc in next 3 stitches, decrease 3 times, sc in next 3 stitches (9)
  • fasten off leaving a tail for sewing

Hands (make 2 with lilac colour):

    • R1 – ch 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (6)
    • R2 – sc around (6)
    • fasten off

Nose (make one with pink):

    • same as hands but with pink colour

Assembly:

  • start with eyes. use a scrap of pink to sew the fleck of colour in Venonat’s eyes. Then centre eyes onto purple puff body and sew in place. I found that with all the loops on the body, I didn’t need stuffing.
  • sew nose in place. Use a scrap of lilac yarn to sew those hanging things off the side of Venonat’s nose
  • sew hands and feet in place.
  • sew antennae on top of ¬†Venonat’s head
  • Done!20160819_222357You’re welcome to sell Venonat’s made from this pattern. Please don’t sell this pattern. I offer it for free because I’m a beginner pattern maker and this pattern isn’t professionally developed.
